This Game is still my favorite Final Fantasy, but I :edit 2019-02-18: look forward to playing the remake. I have only played through the original (1998) PC version. Now there are fan-made patches so the game can run in later versions of Windows and use many fan-made higher-resolution characters and textures. If you have SBLive or Audigy, you can actually get the Latin Vocals to work when One-Winged Angel plays.
:edit 2019-02-18: Now there is a Steam version. It runs on Windows 10, but the latin vocals apparently do not work. I had a tutorial here to help you mod the PC version, but it may not apply to the Steam version. Also, now there are better models, and amazing backgrounds made using AI-assisted resizing–see Graphical Modding Category on Qhimm.com Forums.
In 2006 I played through it again using the patches in my tutorial above–it looks better than ever. At least using my tutorial you can get rid of the glitches and most of the low-polygon characters–and, if you use the TV output on your video card like I did, the game and backgrounds look fantastic; since it was designed for playing on a CRT TV (via PlayStation).
Upon beating this game, I really felt as though I had saved the world. What other game can do that? In my experience, no other game ending has come close.
